monday 28 September 2009 ROAD RACE SILVER FOR MARIANNE VOS IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Marianne Vos last Saturday took silver in the World Championship road race in Mendrisio. Italian rider Tatiana Guderzo rode a solo breakaway to gold, after she escaped in the final circuit from Vos, the American Kristin Armstrong and from fellow Italian Noemi Cantele. The women had nine circuits (127 km) of the difficult course in Mendrisio, Switzerland, to complete. Vos came in ahead of Cantele for second place, at 19 seconds behind Guderzo. British title defender Nicole Cooke withdrew after a crash.
