Safe cycling

Carefree and safe on the road

When you get on your bike, you want to safely participate in traffic. With a KOGA bicycle you are in possession of a reliable bicycle, which you can safely use on the road.

Safe cycling for seniors

Security on the KOGA bicycle
Security on the KOGA bicycle

It is important for young and old to cycle on a suitable bicycle. We advise seniors or people with walking difficulties to take a low step bike. This ensures more safety for yourself. With a low step-in bike you get to the ground sooner and easier, which provides more security on the bike. Suppose you suddenly have to stop. Thanks to the low step, you will quickly have both feet firmly on the ground.

A low entry also makes it a lot easier to get on the bike, which reduces the chance of falling while getting on the bike. KOGA's low entry bikes have a super stiff frame, which keeps the bike stable and comfortable. The fine driving characteristics that belong to a KOGA are retained. A low entry ensures more self-confidence, so that no unsafe situations arise in traffic.

It is very common for the ideal senior bicycle to be an electric bicycle. The extra push in the back ensures that you can go out and about. Nevertheless, sometimes it remains to search for the ideal gear. With the KOGA E-Nova EVO PT Automatic, the bicycle shifts automatically. This way you always cycle in the right gear. The E-Nova EVO PT Pro shifts continuously. That's also nice, because that way you can really achieve the right gear. You also don't feel the shifting moment.

But we also understand that you find it exciting. The e-bike is slightly heavier and goes a bit faster. The most important thing is that you go out with confidence and enjoy cycling. An extra such as a helmet is not mandatory for e-bike riders, but if the helmet makes you feel more comfortable on the bike, then it is something you should definitely have with you.

Safety on Speed pedelecs

Speed pedelec rules
Speed pedelec rules

To be allowed to cycle on a speed pedelec, you are required to be in possession of a valid moped driving license or car driving license B and you must be at least 16 years old. The speed pedelec goes over the moped path, but also over the roadway. The speed pedelec therefore carries a number plate and you must know all the traffic rules to be able to safely go on the road with the speed pedelec. With a speed pedelec you are also not allowed on the bicycle paths, because the pedelec can travel up to 45 kilometers per hour.

KOGA Speed pedelecs

The KOGA PACE B20 Powertube and PACE B20 speed pedelecs are a safe means of transport. The bike itself is sturdy and robust and is equipped with fat tires. That will make you feel confident. As a driver you contribute to the traffic in which cars and motorcycles also participate. This means that you can end up in other traffic situations than on a less fast bicycle. We therefore recommend that you stay well informed about the traffic rules and take them seriously. Those who are willing to do so will have a lot of fun with the speed pedelec. Particularities
Particularities

Helmet

For speed pedelecs, certain safety measures are required in traffic in order to be able to use the road safely. For example, it is mandatory to wear an approved helmet. An approved helmet offers more protection at the back of the head and temple. Wearing a helmet ensures more safety on the road. If you go on the speed pedelec, put on an approved helmet. A selection of good bicycle helmets can be found on the XLC website.

Rear view mirror

Just like the helmet, a rear-view mirror is mandatory on a speed pedelec. The rear-view mirror provides more overview on a speed pedelec. This leads to a more confident feeling, because you have a complete overview of the traffic situation. Thanks to the rear-view mirror, you quickly have other road users in view, so you no longer have to look over your shoulder. The rear-view mirror makes the speed pedelec safer, because you always have a complete overview of the situation in front of and behind you.

The regular e-bikes

The speed pedelec differs from the e-bike in speed and the obligation of the helmet and mirror. The regular e-bike is also a safe means of transport on the road, but you can make it even safer for yourself. Because the control buttons are placed right next to the handle, you can operate your electric bicycle without taking your hands off the handlebars. When you get on the e-bike, keep your balance in mind. An electric bicycle is heavier than a normal bicycle. That is why it is important that you easily land with both feet in order to avoid dangerous situations. You can find the weight of the bicycle on the product page of one of our electric bicycles.

Together we provide a safe cycling environment

Make sure you are always visible
Make sure you are always visible

For the safety of yourself and that of other road users in traffic, it is important that you are clearly visible on the bike. Lighting on a bicycle is mandatory. The lighting of KOGA bicycles is powered by a dynamo or battery. Being visible is not only related to lighting, but also to reflectors. These are cleverly positioned on our bikes. When it gets dark, you don't have to worry about being noticed on a KOGA.

Safe cycling with a smartphone

Do you get a call on the bike? Or do you receive an important message? Then get off and find a quiet place where you can stand safely to answer. Smartphone use in traffic causes many accidents. It is very distracting and is legally prohibited in traffic, including on a bicycle. That also saves a considerable fine!

How does the bicycle lighting work?

The lighting is powered by the battery pack and, if desired, switches on automatically when it gets dark, so also when you enter a tunnel, for example. In addition, all KOGA electric bicycles are equipped with a daylight function, whereby extra LEDs ensure that you are clearly visible in traffic during the day. In the evening the brightness of the daylight function decreases and a powerful LED offers you an optimal view of the road surface. If the battery is empty, the motor acts as a dynamo so that you are never without light on the road.

Maintenance

Prevention is better than cure

Every (electric) bicycle needs maintenance. Maintenance makes the bicycle safer again. The bike is then completely checked. For example, the maintenance of the brakes and the chain is very important. In general, it applies to an e-bike to offer it for regular maintenance every year or every 4,000 kilometers (whichever occurs first) at the KOGA point of sale where you bought the e-bike.
